When Beeswax Comes Alive – a creative autumn workshop

On Sunday, 25 October 2026, we open our autumn series of creative afternoons “Little Hands, Big Stories”. The yurt will smell of honey and wax — the children will make their own candle and an autumn decoration from beeswax.

When and where

  • Date: Sunday, 25 October 2026
  • Time: 2–4 pm
  • Place: the yurt at Lunina dolina, Destrnik — directions to the yurt and parking information are sent by e-mail
  • Registration: required, by Saturday, 24 October, 6 pm

What the children will make

  • A candle from a beeswax honeycomb sheet — they roll the wax sheet around a cotton wick and decorate it with coloured wax cut-outs.
  • An autumn wax decoration — with cutters they cut out a heart, a star, a leaf or another shape, make a small hole and add a string for hanging.

We prepare all the materials. The sheets are gently warmed beforehand so they don't crack when rolled, and the cutters have no sharp edges.

Why bees

While we work, we will talk about bees and pollination: why flowering plants are so important, how bees help orchards and why on the farm we plant trees that are among the first to blossom in spring — wild cherry, lime and cornelian cherry. Without pollinators our valley would be much quieter and much less sweet.

Who it is for

  • Age: children aged 4 to 10
  • Language: the workshop is held in Slovenian, and in English whenever needed — our team speaks Slovenian and English and understands German well
  • Supervision: the workshop is designed for children to create on their own — parents drop them off and pick them up at the end. If a younger child is not yet ready to stay without a parent, we can arrange with the mentor for a parent to stay; just let us know when you register.
  • Places: 15 children — places are filled in order of registration
  • Price: €10 per child, including all materials and a snack — payment on site

Snack

While they create, the children get warm tea and a light snack — some fresh and dried fruit, bread and cheese. If your child has an allergy or special dietary needs, please let us know when you register. When you pick up your children, there is tea for parents too.

What to wear and bring

  • Warm, comfortable clothes that can get a little messy
  • Shoes for grass and mud — we walk across the farm to the yurt
  • Slippers or warm socks — we take our shoes off in the yurt
  • Curiosity and a good mood ♡

With our mentor Hadeja

We run the workshops together with Hadeja Adeva Horvat, an experienced Waldorf kindergarten teacher from Zavod Livija, an organisation that supports empowered and caring families. Hadeja leads the workshops as mentor; we take care of the space, the materials and the warmth of the yurt.

Registration

Places are filled in order of registration and you receive a confirmation by e-mail straight away. Once all places are taken, you can join the waiting list and we will let you know if a place becomes free.

The registration form is on the Slovenian page of the workshop. The fields are: Ime in priimek (name), E-pošta (e-mail), Telefon (phone), Otroci (number of children) and Sporočilo (message — feel free to write in English).

One more thing

We do not light the candles at the workshop. Light yours at home together with your child, under adult supervision, and do not hang the wax decorations right next to a flame.

We will take photos at the workshop. Photos in which a child can be recognised are published only with the parents' consent — if you agree, please mention it in the message when you register.

You can reach us at info@lunina-dolina.si or +386 70 620 382 — in Slovenian, English or German.
