Little Light of Kindness, part 1 – a fairy tale and making a lantern

On Wednesday morning, 28 October 2026 — during the autumn school holidays — we invite children to the yurt at Lunina dolina for the first part of our festival of light. We will listen to a fairy tale and every child will make their own lantern. It is part of the series “Little Hands, Big Stories”.

When and where

  • Date: Wednesday, 28 October 2026 (autumn school holidays)
  • Time: 10 am–12 noon
  • Parents: drop your children off at 10 am and pick them up at 12 noon
  • Place: the yurt at Lunina dolina, Destrnik — directions to the yurt and parking information are sent by e-mail
  • Registration: required, by Tuesday, 27 October, 6 pm

How the morning will go

The fairy tale. Hadeja will tell us a story about a little light — the tiny light we carry inside us and can give to others: with a kind word, a helping hand or a small good deed.

The lantern. Every child makes their own lantern and takes it home.

And then — part 2 on St Martin's Sunday

On Sunday, 15 November, comes part 2 of the Little Light of Kindness: making lanterns and a shared lantern walk at dusk, to which we also invite parents. Children who make their lantern on 28 October bring it along in November and make another one at the workshop — for a grandparent. Registration is separate for each part; children can come to one or both.

Who it is for

  • Age: children aged 4 to 10
  • Language: the workshop is held in Slovenian, and in English whenever needed — our team speaks Slovenian and English and understands German well
  • Supervision: children create on their own with the mentor — parents drop them off and pick them up at the end. If a younger child is not yet ready to stay without a parent, we can arrange for a parent to stay; just let us know when you register.
  • Places: 15 children — places are filled in order of registration
  • Price: €10 per child, including all materials and a snack — payment on site

Snack

While they create, the children get warm tea and a light snack — some fresh and dried fruit, bread and cheese. If your child has an allergy or special dietary needs, please let us know when you register.

What to wear and bring

  • Warm, comfortable clothes that can get a little messy
  • Shoes for grass and mud — we walk across the farm to the yurt
  • Slippers or warm socks — we take our shoes off in the yurt

With our mentor Hadeja

We run the workshops together with Hadeja Adeva Horvat, an experienced Waldorf kindergarten teacher from Zavod Livija, an organisation that supports empowered and caring families. Hadeja leads the workshops as mentor; we take care of the space, the materials and the warmth of the yurt.

Registration

Places are filled in order of registration and you receive a confirmation by e-mail straight away. Once all places are taken, you can join the waiting list and we will let you know if a place becomes free.

The registration form is on the Slovenian page of the workshop. The fields are: Ime in priimek (name), E-pošta (e-mail), Telefon (phone), Otroci (number of children) and Sporočilo (message — feel free to write in English).

One more thing

We will take photos at the workshop. Photos in which a child can be recognised are published only with the parents' consent — if you agree, please mention it in the message when you register.

You can reach us at info@lunina-dolina.si or +386 70 620 382 — in Slovenian, English or German.

When nature sleeps, we must stay awake. ♡
